HVAC Improvements and Replacements

We can provide guidance and recommendations as to economical home heating and cooling to keep your home cozy and comfortable for years to come.

HVAC Improvements for Energy Savings

Before replacing your home’s heating and cooling units, a home energy efficiency audit is the best place to start. This diagnostic test provides a great deal of information to assess the effectiveness of your HVAC system. Benefits from air sealing and insulation can provide an immediate cost saving and many homes will not require any further improvements to achieve a high-efficiency home.

Some homeowners may find that the energy assessment identifies additional areas where substantial benefits in comfort and costs savings can be achieved. In older homes, outdated, inefficient HVAC systems can become too costly to continue to use. In other cases, the HVAC system may require more service or replacement.

Upgrading to High-Efficiency Heating & Cooling

With the energy assessment in hand and an understanding of the specifics of your home, Energy Reduction Specialists of NC can help to identify a reasonable replacement or upgrade to a furnace, heat pump or air conditioning unit. We coordinate with HVAC contractors on a regular basis to help define the best combination of HVAC options to meet the goals of comfortable high-efficiency homes. Our aim is to provide a right-sized, well-sealed and properly installed heating, air conditioning and ventilation system.

Many HVAC Options for Guilford County Area Homes

Natural gas is a common energy source for area homes. We find furnaces and air conditioning powered by natural gas in about half the homes we assess. Another option—great for energy efficiency and comfort— is a heat pump paired with a natural gas-fired furnace as a backup. Manufacturers are producing some of the most high-efficiency furnaces and heat pumps ever available.

The remaining half of homeowners in the Greensboro and Durham area are using electric powered HVAC quite happily. Customers who are already electric may benefit from adding solar photovoltaic (PV) panels to their energy portfolio. To be sure, it is important to assess and address any air sealing and insulation deficiencies before investing in HVAC or renewable energy upgrades, including solar.
